A powerful midfield player he signed for Preston when it became obvious that he had little chance of making the grade at Manchester City. After a slow start he established his position outside the Premier League but later made the step up with Sunderland and Fulham. When he was surplus to requirements at Fulham he moved to Ewood with his fellow midfield player Danny Murphy. A four year contract for a thirty year old appeared remarkably generous especially when the pair never looked to be an ideal partnership. Etuhu dropped out of the side at the turn of the year with cruciate ligament damage.He was expected to return the following season but recurring injuries limited him to just 66 minutes of first team football. It was not a surprise in the close season that the club paid off the final two years of his contract. In December 2018 he was charged with an attempt to fix a game in Sweden but the case was dismissed because the evidence was insufficient.
