Ernest Edds was due to attend his engagement party shortly before the Rovers started negotiations to bring him to Ewood. He signed for the Rovers on Friday, raced north missing Christmas Day at home, played three games in four days and had to wait until the Tuesday to explain events to his girlfriend. Ironically he was not destined to play twenty games for the Rovers. Although he had played most of his career at inside or centre forward the Rovers saw him as a left winger but he never compensated for the departed Langton. He only had three games at Swindon before inury forced him to retire. He remained in the town and later moved into the Midwinter Gardens retirement complex.
