The young Portuguese striker arrived in England for a trial in July and came on as substitute in the games against Fleetwood and Accrington on the same day. It subsequently turned out that his club was unaware of the events and they faxed the Rovers to instruct him to return to Portugal. His father, Edinho, a Brazilian striker had played in Portugal with a host of clubs and in the British Isles with Dunfermline and Bradford City. Out of contract at his club he was secured for a small compensation fee but was not ready for the demands of English football. Five years and three continents later he was back at his first club.
