The capture of Crossan was one of the most astute pieces of business the club ever performed. Although he was permitted a gradual introduction to first team football the club obtained a player of scintillating ability. His quick feet could dance through the tightest defences, he had stamina and although his shooting was regarded as a weakness he was still proficient enough to score 18 league goals in a season. He also scored some of the most magical solo goals the club has ever witnessed, elaborate efforts where he took on opponents for the sheer thrill of dribbling past them. Sometimes whimsical he never gained recognition in his own country gaining just three international caps, less than his young brother John, who seldom looked as good a player. A father of nine he died in 2006 after a long illness.
