A plumber from Mill Hill he converted from full back, making his first team debut as deputy for Jimmy Baldwin. Opportunities were few although when he played his work rate impressed and his only goal was an explosively struck 20 yard shot. By misfortune he was around at the same time that Ronnie Clayton arrived on the scene and inevitably he was denied opportunities. When he left for York he was the club's longest serving player despite having only made a handful of first team appearances. He played only one season in York, returning locally where he resumed his cricketing career with Mill Hill Congregation in the Blackburn Sunday School League. He died in the East Lancashire Hospital after suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
