A Basque brought up in the Riojo, De Pedro had spent his entire career at Real Sociedad, working his way through the junior and B side. Capable of playing on the extreme left but more accustomed to working infield he possessed a left foot that could open a defence up with a quick flick. A dead ball expert he was given his international debut in 1998 but fell out of favour until he was recalled for the 2002 World Cup. Having turned down several transfer opportunities because he wanted to remain in his home area he became embroiled in a dispute with his club and was left out of the side. This gave Blackburn the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer but his lack of match fitness was immediately apparent. He started on the opening day of the season but was taken off at half time and apart from a brief substitute appearance and a League Cup start he never played for the first team again. By the time he left for Perugia in the winter transfer window he had played just 116 minutes of first team football. When Perugia was relegated his contract was terminated and he remained out of football until his old Real team-mate, Hakan Mild, tempted him to have a trial with IFK. He was not immediately granted a contract because of lack of fitness and was then sent off three minutes into his debut. This prompted him to ask for the cancellation of his contract and he returned to Spain where he attempted to arrange a lucrative final end to his career in Qatar. He went to Crete to play for PAE but only played in a friendly game before he found the club could not afford to pay him. During his spell away from the game only El Mensajero of the Canary Islands attempted to sign him until in August he obtained a contract with Burgos in the lower divisions of Spanish football. A year later he joined an old Sociedad team mate ,Agustin Aranzabal, in Tenerife but was soon dismissed because of a lack of commitment. He then decided on a coaching career and started studying for his coaching qualifications. He also resumed playing pelota, a sport in which he was expert but which he had been prohibited from playing by his professional clubs.
