    Summary

Born in Wallsend but raised in Whitley Bay, he was capable of playing in every forward position. A stocky, aggressive player he gained Under 21 honours but his career with Aston Villa drifted without him maturing into the prospect they had anticipated. Contributory to this was a troublesome groin strain problem that delayed the completion of his move to Blackburn. A natural predator he suffered again from lack of regular opportunity and is best remembered for his two late goals that helped destroy Newcastle's quest for the Premiership title in 1996. A succession of clubs followed without his career blossoming but it was not until he arrived at St Mirren that an explanation was found. Tests proved that he was asthmatic and this is the reason why throughout his career he has seldom played a full ninety minutes. When he was in his forties he became the football coach to Monkseaton High School. Encouraged by his return to the game he became assistant  manager at South Shields.
