Dennison’s father Thomas found work as a fitter in Blackburn and settled his family in Lansdowne Street .In 1899. Dennison proved himself to be the most precocious talent seen in town since Bob Crompton. He made his first team debut at the age of 16 years 155 days whilst still a pupil at the Grammar School which was perhaps why an Ewood commissionaire once refused to let him into the player's dressing room. He trained as a teacher in Battersea and later taught at St Matthew’s, St Barnabas's, and was headmaster at Maudsley Street Juniors and St Stephen's, where he was appointed in August 1934. A fine athlete he broke the records in Battersea for the 100 yards and 440 yards. His career was restricted by his education and further hindered when he was invalided out of the Middlesex Territorials because of lockjaw and rheumatism that required long surgery and convalescence. He recovered to play with several northern clubs and at Stalybridge scored more than 250 goals including 76 in one season. He was living in Whalley New Road at the time of his early death.
