With his balding heady and bushy sideburns Fryatt was easily  recognisable. At home in the lower divisions, where size, heart and persistency can bring goals his chief area of expertise was when the ball was in the air. Seldom involved otherwise he contributed little to the Rovers and was soon experiencing football in the USA. It is stated he once scored a goal for Bradford within four seconds of the kick off, although the claim may be apocryphal. He remained in the USA after retirement, first as the assistant manager of Las Vegas Quicksilver and then as a croupier. His son Edward was raised in the country and became a golf professional on the PGA circuit. When Jim Fryatt finally returned to England he found employment with a firm who install playing fields. In his seventies he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.
