A strong tackling left back signed locally he contested the position vacated by Darroch with another local boy, Tom Riley. Perfectly at home in a defence renowned for its toughness he sometimes stood out even in this company as the club's enforcer. The arrival of Cameron confined him to the reserves and he ended up on the south coast. When he finished football he turned to an occupation he was well used to since his father Caleb had kept the Little Harwood Inn for many years. Jack was a licensee in Preston, Blackpool and finally Stalybridge.
