Jack Duckworth a flying right winger arrived from James Street before that club merged into Blackburn Olympic. He was well established in the team by the time the club reached its first English cup final in 1882 but lost his place to Joe Lofthouse. The demands of earning a living, he worked as a letter press printer, interfered with his football and he retired in 1883, although he returned the following season to help in three games. The son of a tax collector, he was licensee of the St John's Tavern in Union Street for over thirty years and never lived anywhere other than in Blackburn. He was of slight build and a problem of his game was that he was often deterred by rough play.
