Connelly was a slick haired winger who could fly, cross from any angle often at the last moment as the ball reached the dead ball line and cutting in could spit venom with either foot. An illustrious career with Burnley and Manchester United was a long way from the end when he came to Ewood but he shared in a side that threatened a return to the First Division that never materialised. A spell at Bury completed his footballing career although he was still playing five aside football in the Thompson Centre when in his forties. By then he was the proprietor of a fish and chip shop in Brierfield, a position he held for 31 years.
