    Summary

In the late nineties a body named the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame appointed a selection committee. Its members were Gerald Ford, Nadia Comaneci, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Jerry Kramer, Floyd Patterson, Stan Smith, Bill Steinkraus and Laurie Calloway. No-one would have believed that the rugged, enthusiastic left back who came to Ewood in 1968 as an understudy for Keith Newton would end up in such exalted company. His English career was spent in the lower realms of the Football League but five years of NASL football in San Jose changed his life. He became a friend of Pele, was given the key to the city of San Jose and had a coaching career that took in California Surf, Seattle Sounders, Salt Lake City Sting, San Francisco Blackhawks and San Diego Clash. For a time he was executive vice president of the Brazilian Youth FA in the USA. When he remarried Marcella Spinazze, co-owner of the Café Marcella in San Jose, he embarked in another career in up market dining and opened an eponymous deli-restaurant in Capitola Village. Later he returned to coaching with Des Moines Menace, Syracuse Salty Dogs, Rochester Raging Rhinos  and Des Moines Menaces. He then spent many years as  soccer coach at the Oxbridge Academy in Florida.
