Formica had gained a considerable reputation as a left side midfield player who could score goals. His transfer to Marseilles fell through at the last moment and the Rovers stepped in to sign the player, described by Steve Kean as the “new Batistuta”. However he had difficulty settling into the English game and never played for the first team in his first half season. He was in and out of the side thereafter but although no-one faulted his work rate, he never established himself. With the club anxious to trim the wage bill he was made available for transfer and joined Palermo in the January 2013 transfer window. He was eventually transferred to Cruz Azul, where he spent two seasons before returning to Argentina.
