After failing to make the grade at Tottenham Blake returned to his home town team. He was then a right back, and played for the Welsh B team in that position but Cardiff noticed that he had the build of a sprinter and at times was equally explosive. Trying him up front they discovered he had an eye for goal and the ability to lurk with intent in the danger areas. These qualities took him to Sheffield Utd, Bolton and the Rovers although in every case he could not prevent his team being relegated from the Premier League. Never settled at Ewood his lack of work rate did not endear him and his move to Wolverhampton was no surprise. Although he helped the Wanderers to promotion he continued to struggle with injury and was released and joined Leicester. His chances of finding a new club in 2005 were closed when he received a suspension for testing positive for a recreational drug. After a brief spell at Newport, he retired from the game to run his own property company. He also started to act in Welsh films and in 2013 was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Film Festival Cymru for his role in “Say It”. The following year he won the award for his part in “The Homing Bird”. A columnist for the South Wales Echo he worked with Crimestoppers to help combat youngsters drifting into crime. He shares the unenviable record of having been relegated from the Premier League on five occasions.
