    Summary

The son of Polish immigrants who settled in Livingston he made a name for himself early and was the only one of the Scottish side that reached the final of the Under 16 World Cup in 1989 to make the grade at senior level. This was despite the fact that he played striker and never grew beyond 5 feet 6 inches. To compensate for his lack of stature he developed a waspish attitude, never stopped chasing and hounded opponents constantly. This brought him little opportunity at Arsenal but after loan spells had emphasized his worth he was signed by Manchester City. At Maine Road and then with Leicester he proved that no matter how hard pressed his club was he could obtain goals and proved a cult hero with both sets of fans. His last second goal in the play off final against Gillingham was voted the greatest goal ever scored by a City player and he subsequently scored again when his club clinched promotion to the Premiership. When Leicester was relegated he joined the Rovers and in an uneasy season his non-stop efforts were astonishing. Even playing with a groin strain he ran non stop, always offering himself for the pass and closing defenders down with phenomenal effort. Less utilized the following season he declined a contract extension and joined his old club Manchester City. The hoped for fairy tale ending to his career did not happen but he still found himself in demand and in 2009 helped Leicester to the First Division Championship. In the summer of 2010 he took his first step into management, with Oldham Athletic. After a promising start he helped mastermind an historic FA Cup win over Liverpool in 2013 but his league results were poor and he was dismissed before the next round of the cup. In the close season he was appointed manager of Doncaster. He had a season in the position but was dismissed after a poor start to the following season.
