Starting at the club as a creative inside forward good enough to be selected for special training at Lilleshall he lost his way, overshadowed by his close friend, Stuart Metcalfe. The club converted him to right back where surprisingly his main defect was a vigorous approach that exceeded the permissible. He spent three good seasons with Stockport before entering the non-league scene with several clubs close to his home town. His finest game was in 1972 when Stockport beat West Ham in the League Cup and he gave a performance that is still recalled by Stockport fans. He subsequently moved toSydney, Australia as sales manager for Amersham International but was back in England at retirement age.
