After making over 300 league appearances for Hull City De Vries was a short term solution to the left back problem with the Rovers. Positionally sound and strong in the tackle he had lost pace by the time he came to Ewood and was never going to be anything other than a stop gap. Ironically with his next club Scunthorpe he finally scored the maiden goal that had eluded him in fourteen seasons in the Football League. He subsequently taught in a primary school in Hull and was still playing five a side football at the Woodford complex in Hull in 2004.
