Born in Manchester, the son of Guyanese parents he became a trainee at Manchester United and established himself rapidly in the team. Able to play at right or centre back he proved a strong defender who gained many honours and England international caps. In the twilight of his career he moved to Sunderland and after his release in 2016 he came to the Rovers for an off season trial. Injured in the first days of training camp he remained with the club and eventually signed a one year deal at the end of September which also included helping with the club’s development squad. Only occasionally required for first team duty he was found to be way past his peak and unable to cope with the pace of the game.
