  1. What's the betting it will be Andy D'Urso?
  2. Dickov must be doing something bad to have me screaming obcenities at him for 90 minutes; not just this game but others this year (2005). I'd like to see Stead and Johnson in a 4-4-2 formation. Matteo is a central defender as is Johannson. Both were not fully fit. We have three left backs one of whom is out injured for the season and the other two are on loan at Gillingham and Leeds United. Lucas Neill is pretty poor. We need two good full-backs in the summer as well as two good strikers. The Arsenal players were far better quality than the Rovers players except for Nelsen and Pedersen. They are our only class players; a sad fact
  3. You've said it all. What a superb team performance; terrific hard work; everyone running, chasing and helping each other. Liverpool were a far more skilful side than Everton and pressed us for 80 of the 90 minutes. But we were up to it. My verdict on the effort........EXCELLENT.......Proud of the lads! Sparky and his team are doing a great job. Moaners stop complaining.
  4. I cant see us scoring. If we can play as well as we did at Everton we may scrape a 0-0 draw. But we have to have eleven on the field for the whole game. Fingers crossed.
  5. I have an audio tape of Radio Rovers from a home game v Huddersfield Town in the 2nd Div. I play it from time to time. I enjoy it. There's an interview with Tony Parkes. We'd just beaten Liverpool at Anfield in the cup. I think Nathan Blake scored from a McAteer cross. Scott Sellars and George Donis are in Huddersfield's squad. The music starts with Final Countdown then goes into D J Sakin & Friends' "Protect your mind (for the love of a princess)" and finishes with Queen's "We will rock you". This was always my favourite pre kick off compilation.
  6. The game was dire but you couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces in the pub afterwards. I watched the video recording of the whole thing again last night. It was worse than the live match at Ewood. Full marks to Gary Lineker who wished us well at the end of the programme with a smile on his face. Extremely professional.
  7. Mokoena is known as "The Axe"
  8. Cliff Richard is the ref ? No, you are wrong... it is Elton John No, Cliff Richard was/is Harry Webb. Elton John was/is Reg Dwight. And to keep this to a footballing thread, his dad was Roy Dwight who played for Nottm Forest against Luton Tn in the 1959 FA cup final.
  9. Well done Den. It has been fun and also has made the younger ones and us oldies find out about great players of the past. I quite fancy the "reserve" side. They look pretty strong.
  10. Leicester at home is the best draw of all and a tremendous incentive to both Burnley and ourselves to reach the semi-final. Come on you blues
  11. I always look for the result of Crewe Alexandra. That club should be on a par with Halifax Town, Exeter City, Newport County etc. etc. , and would be if it weren't for Dario Gradi. What a manager! What a guy! What a lovely little football club that has been punching well above its weight for years. Still, the only club whose results can change my mood dramatically is ROVERS
  12. So did I but I'm glad to see Simon Garner way out in front.
  13. I'm dreaming of playing for Rangers in their biggest derby game of all against PARTICK THISTLE...............Well that is THE big derby, isn't it? Or am I as confused about derby games as Barry is?
  14. Ferguson McEvoy Pickering Douglas Harrison - wasn't bad! And before those we had:- Douglas (aged about 18), Crossan, Briggs, Quigley, Langton. That wasn't bad, either.
  15. Maybe we got spoilt when three or four times a season Dobing would play a real "blinder" yet in a lot of other games the crowd got frustrated with him. It's only my opinion. I hadn't realised his goals/games ratio was so good. Anyway we both have happy memories of those "good old days".
  16. The only one on the list I have never seen play is Jack Southworth. Even though his scoring was so prolific he took a lot of persuading to come from Olympic to Rovers and later played for Everton. Hmmmm . Dobing was never as good as Vernon in my opinion; not as consistant. Neither of these would I class as out and out strikers. They were both attacking midfielders. It's funny how quirks of fate can change a footballer's life. Look at Dave Whelan who may never have become so successful in business if he hadn't broken his leg at Wembley. Fred Pickering playing, at full back, got injured during a game. No subs in those days so Fred became a "passenger" and was duly moved to centre forward for the remainder of the game, scored two goals and opened the manager's eyes. Andy McEvoy was used at right half in place of the injured Clayton and was pretty hopeless. Probably due to other injuries he was used as a utility player and was moved up alongside Pickering. Both became prolific goalscorers. McEvoy wasn't a good footballer in any sense other than he could "poach" goals. And boy did he do some poaching. Tommy Briggs was a firm favourite although all his goals were in the second division, not the top flight. I saw his seven in the 8-3 victory over Bristol Rovers. I also saw Rovers beat Middlesbrough 9-0 and Tommy didn't get one! I suspect Simon Garner is in the lead and IMO quite rightly so. I'll soon be voting when I've finally made up my mind.
  17. Bloomin eck, Nayef, I like your photo of Chris Sutton
  18. I haven't voted yet, Den; cannot make my mind up. Keep it open for a while yet
  19. Just watched the highlights on TV. Brad beaten again by a shot from the left.
  20. There was a target man on the bench but he wasn't used. AMORUSO If he had come on up front for the last 10 to 15 minutes I reckon we may have got something out of the game. But I'm pleased with overall performance especially MGP,Mokoena,Todd and my MOM, Ryan Nelsen. Brad got beaten by a shot from their left for the umpteenth time. This is one of his weak points and should be worked on to improve.
  21. Well need to call out the army to escort us in and out, again! What a draw!!
  22. three quarters of an hour to go. My prediction....................Nott'm Forest away I'm always wrong. That's why I can't win the lottery
  23. Ten men Rovers hang on to scrape a draw 2-2 after Savage is sent off on his debut. I hope I'm wrong.
