Premier League season 21/22
lraC replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I am pretty sure that Newcastle will survive like you say. the back to back wins, have made a huge difference to the Claret's chances and I have a feeling the momentum, might just be starting. The next 2-3 will be big and the games left against the other contenders will be the real heart stoppers. It was a big point yesterday too, which was looking unlikely early doors. -
It's such a relief to get a win and to finally score. with 15 minutes to go, I was convinced it was going to be another blank, but thankfully we managed one and should have had 2 or 3 more. The defence was it's usual rock and although he may have his detractors, I though Gallagher was excellent. At one point in the first half, he showed what defending from the front was all about and love to see that in the strikers, as it takes the pressure off, before it starts. Dolan certainly did his bit too and makes us more lively and constantly worries the defenders. It was fitting that Khadra got the goal, after his penalty miss at Sheffield UTD and here is hoping that the panic in front of goal calms down with the monkey off our back, and we start to compliment the defence and start collecting point again. As Mark Warburton said after the match, had they won, they moved 5 points clear of us, so it was big today in every sense of the word.

More bad news Nayambe out.

Us fans are anxious about no goals in hours of trying and it’s clearly on the players minds too. Hard as we try it just isn’t happening and the lack of composure when a chance comes along, is plain to see.

I think the worst team we have come across this year, so far as being a hard and dirty team (Crazy gang 2022 version) were Luton, especially at their place. We stood up to them, pretty well and got a point. Three would have been better, but they are in and around the play off positions, due to their style not their quality.

I can take the string defeats that have come along on a regular basis, if we score the odd goal and compete. Like any fan, there is nothing like the feeling of seeing your team hit the back of the net. To go 5 games and not do what the game is all about even once, it totally crazy. I can only liken it to going to the theatre and all the actors use sign language instead of speech and you don't know any. Perhaps another analogy is the alcohol free beer. Tony has served up 5 games and taken all of our goals out. Blackburn Rovers new nickname BARBICAN.

I have to say, if we fail to score in 5 games in the bounce, we do not deserve any success. Most fans will feel deflated after this. Where we go from here who knows, but it feels like the season will end with a whimper. I can see us going on with this goal drought too, as I simply don’t see where the next goal is coming from. -

We haven’t failed to score in 5 consecutive league games in our history. We are 45 minutes from that record. -

Anyone seen the stat about the club record if we don’t score tonight? -

It’s big this in terms of our season and I hope and pray, we come back with something. I’ve created a gap behind the sofa to hide behind, put my lucky boxers on and let the wife have a glass of wine. If there is anything else I can think of to please the football gods, I will do it. -

Great preview Herbie. The picture of Tony Field brought back some Childhood memories and a bit of heartbreak. He was one of my first heroes and I remember him also being, one of the first players to be transferred, whilst I was a young fan. Relying on my memory rather than looking it up, I think we lost the boss, Ken Furphy to the Blades, who then came back and raided the club. Other things that spring to mind when I think of the blades, is the FA Cup quarter final defeat there on penalties and also a couple of friends who have played for them. Hope we can get something, but do fear the worst on Wednesday. A draw would keep them at arms length and a win would be wonderful. A scabby 0-1 against the run of play please and a return to our winning run, will go down nicely. -
Blackburn lads who played for rovers
lraC replied to broadsword's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Does anyone remember a Padiham lad called Dave Byrom? He didn't make the first team, but made the reserves and was offered a pro contract I think around 1983. He went to school at St Augustine's Billington and I remember playing against him, when I was around 15 and thought he was a real talent. I also remember him playing for England Schoolboys V Scotland, when they showed that match annually live on the BBC. I did hear he got into some sort of trouble after he left Rovers and never made it as a full time pro. -
1/3 to go down now, with Norwich and Watford. I can’t see them escaping.

Alex Binnie? His official name is John Binnie and he was on Rovers books. Not sure if he made the first team, but played at Stanley for a while. Nice lad too and married snooker player, Jim Meadowcrofts daughter. -
You need a more understanding wife. I have sorted a table for two, with Sky Sports on the big screen in the snooker club. I am giving her a 50 point start too, which she thinks is very romantic of me. I will let her break first too.

I think Rich Sharpe has said that we have him on a 4 or maybe 5 year contract. As a fan, I would much rather see him in the first team and get at least 2-3 seasons from him, before selling him for big money. If we do sell him before he makes the first team though, hopefully it will still be for big money.

Definitely can't afford to lose, as we can keep the daylight between us with a draw, or stretch it with a win. WB by the way. -
I saw something on Twitter posted by Rich Sharpe to that effect. I know a lad who is a youth team scout at Everton, who has told me a few things about their youth scouting system and from the bit I know, we have played a blinder tying this lad down to that length of contract. Let’s hope he goes on to fulfil the promise he is showing.

What’s the situation with his contract? If someone does come in for him, do we have him tied down, so that it’s big money, if we do lose him?

I think Swansea are there for the taking. Brereton will notch if he comes on, which I think he will if we are still behind with 30 to go. I can see us winning this still if we switch the formation. -

Me too. I don’t care how entertaining the game is, if we win. -

Pull off and get into a pub to watch it. No consolation, but better than missing it totally. -
January Transfer Deadline Day 2022

This can so easily go the wrong way. Piss the existing players off and create a bit of bad blood in the camp and the wheels could come off. I know it helps, but money does not guarantee success. I am wondering if there tactics with JR were to create bad blood at Ewood.
