Reading v Rovers. March 2nd 2021, 8pm.

I know Travis has been poor since his injury but, unless he's got a knock which is unlikely if he's on the bench, I'd never have him behind Evans. -
Other football league 2020/21 season

He's gone to Sheff Wednesday now. -
Always remember we had a corner or free-kick in a dangerous position right at the end of that game and Alex Baptiste looked across at Bowyer presumably checking if he could go up for it. Then Bowyer gestured for him to stay back! As if rock bottom Blackpool under Lee Clark were gonna launch a Man Utd circa 2008 style lethal counter attack. Bowyer did some good but yeah should have been gone halfway through 14/15.

For Hughes at Stoke, it went stale to the point of them looking like they were going to get relegated, but he did a good job there overall - three consecutive 9th placed finishes, then a 13th placed finish which admittedly was a drop-off and must have carried on into the following season. As we're seeing with ourselves at the moment, four full seasons is a long time for a manager to stay at a club these days, so it can happen that it goes stale and you end up regressing. But he did a good job there overall and the 'only' blemishes on Hughes' CV should be QPR and Southampton IMO. He even kept both of those up initially but the following half-seasons he had at both were a disaster. He'd be on my list somewhere.

What a wet wipe. Hopefully that does happen though (they both go).

Rovers v Watford Wed 24th Feb 19:45
frosty replied to davulsukur's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Was it? After almost 8 years of nothingness I'm a bit sick of seeing him to be honest. -
Have I missed all these good performances from us that have somehow ended in defeat, à la Brighton? When we lose we usually stink the place out too with our performance. In fact I'd be embarrassed to call myself a performance related coach after what's been served up the last few months.

They can still leave their homes for training and matches I think. The tweet doesn't tell the full story at all really. -
Rovers v Watford Wed 24th Feb 19:45

In 15 away games Watford have only scored 8 - but only conceded 9. With how toothless we’ve been in front of goal lately, if we do go a goal down it’ll probably be game over. I was going to say it’s embarrassing that we’ve nothing to play for in February but being three points above 18th and five above 20th (how’s it come to this?) is a bit too close to the drop zone if we carry on this run of form. 0-0 or 0-1. Then we’ll probably beat Coventry at the weekend which Mowbray will live off for a while. -

Championship Season 2020 - 2021
frosty replied to Hoochie Bloochie Mama's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Been impressed with Barnsley every time we’ve played them this season and last, even though we’ve somehow managed to win both the home games. But the only way we’re getting anything on Wednesday night is if they’re knackered after playing Chelsea on Thursday and then Brentford today. -
I was thinking that too, it’s gonna go down in history. 15 years from now ‘remember when Mowbray had Sam Gallagher at right back?’ will still get the occasional mention. Let’s hope Mowbray leaves soon like Souness did after that (can’t see Midtable Mogga being poached though somehow).
-
I don’t no, but ‘Middlesbrough fans’ seems a bit of a generalisation based on one email. It’s an abysmal result of course, but it’s happened a few months into a relatively new manager’s reign which has on the whole gone very well so far. So that’s why there’s practically zero criticism of Warnock from what I’ve seen. If it happened to us now after years of Mowbray’s ‘slow build’ and with most of us believing he’s taken us as far as he can? Different story.
-
You must have done well to find that comment somewhere! Just had a scroll through the hundreds of replies to the Middlesbrough account tweeting the final score tonight. Haven’t seen one ‘Warnock out’ or negative comment against him, and the tweet with the most likes is one fan saying how well he’s done to have that squad 7th in the league. I’d swap him for Mowbray tomorrow.

100% yes. As already touched on, this year was meant to be 'the year' after two seasons of 'consolidation'. This summer we didn't lose any key players yet again, the players brought in looked to be very good signings, we were saying that everything was in place (apart from those of us who've had doubts about Mowbray's ability to get us challenging for a while now). So if I was told that we'd be plodding along in mid-table yet again being x amount of points from the play offs, then it would have simply confirmed what plenty of us were quite sure of and what surely everybody must realise now - we're not going to finish in the top 6, let alone go up, with Mowbray. I don't agree with outstanding start by the way, unless you're referring to the first three games only, in which yep we had two thumping wins. But two wins out of three soon became two wins out of six, and three out of 10. I'd say it's after about 10 games when a start to a 46 game season can be judged.
-
Agreed, that one always comes to mind. I'd never seen the stands so empty at half time before.
-
2 wins in 6 to start the season was it? And 3 in about 9 or 10? We never had any consistency (apart from showing consistent mid-table form). Thanks a lot for the summary btw.
-
And what was the trigger for them becoming a promotion challenging team almost overnight and then getting promoted? Binning the managers that had them finishing about 13th every year and pushing the boat out for an excellent one. I don't want to have to wait 15 years for that like they had to.......

Allen was £13m according to a transfermarkt and a few other sources.

Stoke (h) Saturday 16th Jan
frosty replied to Uddersfelt Blue's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
No certainly not at the moment, as I don’t think Mowbray is under any pressure regardless of whether we win, lose or draw. So we may as well win in that case, of course, even if mid-table is our limit. If for some reason there was a guarantee that a loss would lead to his departure, then that’d be a game changer..... -

This. Being a supporter is about wanting the best for your club. The best for Rovers right now and going forward, I think we can (almost) all agree, is not Mowbray. If it was a choice between winning on Tuesday and on we plod, or lose and he’s guaranteed (that’s the key word there) to resign or be sacked, then it’d be a no-brainer. As I believe that could be the best for Rovers long term. I’d have taken getting hammered 20 Premier League games in a row if it meant Kean would have been sacked. Unfortunately it was clear he was bulletproof. Bit like Mowbray appears to be now (he’s obviously nowhere near Kean and Coyle’s level, goes without saying, but best just make that clear...). -

zzzzz More mid-table nothingness from Mid-table Mowbray's mediocre men. -
I agree that - if we were a normal club - we should think outside the box rather than appoint somebody who got promoted from the Championship about ten years ago but is now on the scrapheap. It’d have to be more obscure than someone like De Zerbi though. He’s currently sat in the Champions League places in Serie A. His next job will be a big Italian club rather than following on from Mid-table Mogga. It’d have to be someone more obscure but still promising. I’d love to make a foreign appointment and have somebody with completely fresh ideas rather than Mowbray getting muddled trying to work out whether it’s Sheffield United, Leeds or the latest flavour of the month whose approach he’d like to copy. The team being in such poor form, ideally we’d be looking at smaller European leagues or second divisions in the larger European countries looking for potential managers. Shame we’re not normal and, as you say, he’s here for the foreseeable and we’ll just keep on plodding away.

Rovers v Rotherham Utd. (h) Wed. 16th Dec. 7.45pm
frosty replied to darrenrover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Big Sam is a much better manager than Mowbray. It’s not even a debate and to be honest they shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath. Big Sam gets results at the highest level (wherever he goes), while Mowbray is currently trying to convince us that he’s a ‘performance-based manager’ sat halfway down the second tier. Anyway, come on Rovers!
