  1. There were only about 400 left on Monday and the club has said there will be no sales on the day which usually suggests a sell out or very close to being to avoid people travelling for disappointment.
  2. Conway's good for an hour at most even when fully fit, so whichever way he decides to play it we're going to need an alternative for the next few games.
  3. Peterborough something of an odd side. Started the season like a house on fire but since mid-September have been on a fairly dreadful run slipping from the automatic spots to mid-table. They've had home wins over Shrewsbury and Wigan and went very close to winning at Charlton last week but have also gone down at home to the likes of Blackpool, Gillingham and Oxford this season. A mixed bag team but they've only won 2 of 11 in the league since overcoming Wigan in September. Hopefully we'll get the last few hundred tickets shifted this week for another great sell-out away following. Only been to Peterborough once before but enjoyed the place and the ground. Real old fashioned main stand, walking distance to the town centre, some great pubs around.
  4. Adkins, Lambert, Megson and Pulis the favourites for Hull.
  5. If Oyston was really vindictive he could follow the Walker Trust route and flog them on the cheap to the first dodgy folk who show the money....
  6. Tinge of jealousy for me. Pleased for the genuine Blackpool fans who may have a future for their club so long as the sale process is successful but also envy that their living nightmare could soon be at an end whereas ours continues with much less prospect of forcing the Indians out. They can look forward to an Oyston-less future whereas we're stuck with the Indian liars for the foreseeable.
  7. http://www.ekathimerini.com/223057/article/ekathimerini/sports/marinakis-to-face-criminal-charge-in-court-and-give-away-olympiakos Forest owner facing charge of criminal match fixing in Greece. Well done 'EFL' another one through the doors.
  8. Cheston was clearly instructed to make no further comment on the subject at the recent fans meeting. It was (rightly or wrongly) included on the agenda, the club approved that agenda so knew it was coming, yet immediately Cheston said he wasn't prepared to comment on it and that it had been dealt with. As far as post mortems go it hasn't been dealt with as the last meeting was in March prior to relegation when the focus was on survival. If I didn't know better I'd say that Cheston's bosses had told him to keep his mouth shut on the Coyle subject and to divulge nothing.
  9. If it was a genuine honest decision then fine, it happens in football, and when it does the person who got it so horrifically wrong is sacked or sidelined from decision making. That person or persons have relegation on their hands, and so should pay for their massive error of judgment. However as it stands we are all still speculating as to who exactly was responsible for that decision. The club have done a very good job indeed at consigning that episode to the history books whilst concealing the true nature of that decision making process. Its quite clear that Cheston was involved up to a point, but not as far as making a final decision. Its safe to say whoever did make the decision whether it be Venkys, Pasha or other shadowy individuals that none of them were qualified to be doing so, none of them are directors of the club or are fit to be making such decisions, yet it seems all remain in place to this day.
  10. The story I got told was that when Warnock first met the people from Rovers he wanted to remain based in Devon/Cornwall with Blackwell and Jepson essentially working at Brockhall during the week and Warnock would travel up on a Thursday-Saturday basis to prepare for the game and then go home for a few days. This was what he had done whilst managing Rotherham the previous season and it had worked very well for them. Rovers weren't overly keen on this arrangement so eventually Warnock, who was keen on the job, agreed to relocate up North so he could be at the club every day in a full time capacity. Following this they even got as far as to discuss budgets and Warnock was very happy with what he was going to be getting financially to build a side and verbally agreed to take the job. His coaching staff were ready and waiting to come in. Then at the 11th hour he was informed that the deal was off as Rovers were going elsewhere. The rest is history as Cardiff battle it out for a place in the Premier League and their average attendances have gone up massively this season whilst we languish in mid-table League One struggling to maintain a push for the play-offs with one of the biggest wage bill and monthly losses in League One history.
  11. Whichever way you chose to interpret the Coyle appointment it cannot be forgiven or forgotten, no matter how many times they plonk another temporary distraction infront of the cameras to make people think things are different. As people have said, it amounts to one of two things, or a mixture of the two. 1) The appointment of Coyle was a result of immense incompetence and ineptitude on a scale up there with the worst decisions ever made at this club. 2) The appointment of Coyle was through his agency connections and people pulling the right strings at the right time. Either way, the club is knackered. If they really had innocent motives and opted for Coyle over Warnock or any one of dozens of alternatives then that suggests they aren't fit to run the club. Even if you completely overlook his Burnley history his performance as a football manager was a succession of disasters at Bolton, Wigan and Houston and nobody would touch him with a bargepole. I could bring myself to accept that if the person who had decision making ability in that process revealed himself, admitted making a massive error, stepped down from decision making and ideally away from the club altogether and apologise for the direct impact it had on us being relegated. If it comes down to the old agency stuff and Coyle getting catapulted to the front of the queue despite a weary CV due to his agent friends then it shows nothing has changed and probably never will whilst they are here. The worst thing the club could do is just pretend it never happened and leave the same culprits in place for another opportunity to present itself in a year or two time. Yet over in Ewood towers it seems its all gone into the 'history' tray to be forgotten for all time. I'm afraid I can't just pretend it never happened when it resulted in relegation and we're looking unlikely to bounce back from it.
  12. The resident clowns at the 'EFL' will be worried about this development. Not because of the shadow it casts on the English game but because it might mean they have to actually do something about the ongoing ownership issues at numerous clubs when until now their preference has been to shrug their shoulders, put their fingers in their ears and pretend nothing is wrong whilst prostituting the Football League around the world to the highest bidders. Quite happy to pander to Pep Guardiola and issue pointless media statements when he moans about the type of ball used in the cup but very quiet about dodgy owners at Blackpool, Rovers, Coventry and Charlton dragging them towards rack and ruin. Quite happy to make a mockery of the League Cup by renaming it, selling it to a Far East energy drink and making a laughing stock out of the draws, not so cocky when one of their member clubs owners end up in the High Court.
  13. Good lad, watched him quite a few times with the u23s and the consensus around me is that its about time he had a chance in the first team squad, especially given some of the dollopers we've seen come and go in the last 2-3 years. Makes some of the transfer business more baffling when we're signing Harper from WBA on loan when I think Tomlinson has demonstrated enough over the last couple of years to warrant a proper opportunity. Mowbray did give him a couple of cameo appearances at the end of last season in a higher division when we were fighting for our lives so seems strange he isn't now prepared to throw him in when we're a league lower and have more room to manoeuvre. Mowbray alluded to some 'personal' issues earlier this season as the reason he hadn't featured for some time so good to see he seems to have come through the other side of that.
  14. Going to be one or two running into difficulties in the near future. Sheffield Wednesday well off the pace despite massive spending - hard to see how that can carry on if they miss out again. Derby have been having a go for years and need to go up. Norwich will be running out of money soon. Middlesbrough spent £50 million and aren't even in the top 6. Also goes to show with clubs like Cardiff and Sheffield United right up there despite minimal spending that it can still be done for the less well funded clubs (not our problem as we have 'billionaire owners' who 'never say no' to spending money - its only FFP that stops them). It wouldn't surprise me if both those clubs had smaller wage bills than Rovers looking at the sort of players they have signed and that we appeared to be handing Whittingham more than Cardiff were which again just rubs more salt in the wounds.
  15. Tomlinson has signed a new deal until 2019 https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2017/november/tomlinson-signs-new-deal/
  16. Doing very well on small crowds and minimal finance. If it wasn't them I'd be happy as it is another mythbuster episode to prove that you don't need massive gates and loads of money to compete (Mike Cheston). I don't think they'll last the pace. Some stronger squads and more experienced operators starting to gather just outside the top 6. Villa are coming good, Boro will be up there, Fulham won't be far off. Quite pleased about Notlob. Worst case is we have another local derby in League One next season but much better if we're back in a higher division than them.
  17. I'm still struggling with this. You say it is a fact that Rhodes is yesterdays man, and you seem to have decided his 'legs have gone' aged 25. Have you any real basis for either of those statements or is it just because he's been playing at clubs where he isn't guaranteed 1st team football and so his opportunities are more limited? In terms of career achievements I think that will be decided once both players have retired.
  18. He made 70+ appearances for Rovers, and was at the club from 2012 to 2015 so plenty of chances to establish himself as a regular in the team and hot property. If he was doing the business on the training ground every week then at some stage in that time period he would have been given a chance to play in his favoured position. I remember clearly being relieved in 2014 that he was going into the final year of his contract as he had offered nothing to the cause and he was a big earner we were close to getting rid of. Prior to the FA Cup games in early 2015 he had been nothing other than a regular treatment room visitor and bench warmer. Hindsight is great but at Rovers he was a waste of space really.
  19. Not for us in the Championship he didn't. He can do it when he wants to as shown at Bournemouth with the big boys and in glimpses when at Rovers. He either couldn't or wouldn't do it every week in the rough and tumble of the Championship. That might partly be down to the manager but I'd argue if he was that good and that determined then he would have forced his way into the first XI and stayed there. Amazing you refer to King bringing goals yet in 2.5 years at Rovers he scored about 3. Lovely that he's netting for Bournemouth in the Prem with a decent team supplying him but there was none of that whilst at Rovers and he spent more time away injured than he did actually playing.
  20. Yes I would. I'd work on what they offered during their times at Rovers. Rhodes did the business consistently with a good attitude, King didn't. King had chance after chance in his time at Rovers and for whatever reason couldn't or wouldn't do it here.
  21. Like I say, 1 game in 2 and a half seasons when he knew he could make a name for himself. Rhodes and Gestede maybe didn't have the individual ability of King but they churned out consistent performances each week in the league rather than a once in a blue moon show like King. How many goals did King even notch for us? My memory is of someone constantly getting a sight on goal then fluffing his chances.
  22. We aren't in the Premier League and won't be for a long time. We aren't in the Championship any more, one of the reasons being that we sold off that 40 goal strikeforce and trousered the dosh. King did nowt for Rovers in 2.5 years, Rhodes and Gestede did.
  23. Its a bit late in the day to start hailing King as a brilliant talent. He was at Rovers for 2.5 seasons and apart from a couple of games was useless. If he's decided to knuckle down at Bournemouth then good for him but I saw very little from him at Rovers to wish he was back here. If he came back tomorrow but then reverted back to the King we had last time then we wouldn't really benefit from it. Whether its down to his attitude, fitness or his manager, nobody can say his time at Rovers was a success. Rhodes in 3.5 years said he was upset we didn't allow him to speak to Middlesbrough. After that he was fit, ready to play and banged 11 more league goals in before he was sold. Rhodes did the business for Rovers. King did nothing except beat Stoke in the cup but has since done well.
  24. He put the effort in for the FA Cup game because he knew he could make a name for himself. And that's exactly what he did, tore Stoke a new one and on that game alone got a move to Bournemouth and he's thrived in the spotlight of the Premier League. If he'd have done what he did vs Stoke in the games vs Yeovil, Doncaster and Millwall then we might have got in the play-offs or at least his value would have rocketed and we could have cashed in on him. When you look what he's done since he's undoubtedly a talent, but big question marks for me on why he never did it in the Championship. He'll only be remembered here for the Stoke game precisely because in 2.5 years that was the only game he really stood out.
  25. Strange. You wouldn't want back a model professional who scored 80+ goals in 3 years for us yet you would want a player back who had 1 good game vs Stoke in almost the same period of time. What King has done since is largely irrelevant as he seldom did it here. Either because he was 'injured' or couldn't be bothered.
