Meanwhile in the real world of grass root football, after winning promotion last season, Chester City have been served with a winding-up order by Customs and Excise over alleged unpaid VAT. -
So we're all agreed it's Jordan's fault then? No, it wasnt Jordan. Sorry Tris, Your out of order there, if people care to read back through the posts there is no mention of Jordan phoning a Radio station. In fact Jordan got it completely wrong.

Times have changed in sports reporting, especially football. With the expansion of internet sites, numerous magazines etc there is a greater need to fill spaces and thus the clammour for gossip and rumour. There doesnt even have to be a sourse, a writter gets an idea and fabricates a tale, eg player X isnt in the team, story player X falls out with manager. It fill space in the paper, internet site A expands on story and within 24 hours its gospel included in every tabloid and internet site. It used to be that the only sourse for press releases at a club was the manager, there were no cheif executives and no one new who the chairman was. A player who spoke to the press without first having permission from the club was fined. Now every Tom,Dick and Harry at a club talks to the media, not to metion the players' agents who have a field day leaking hints, in order to line his own pockets with transfer deals or pay rises for his client. At one stage Newspaper journalists had a secure sourse at a club, who would feed them information, which could be used as an exclusive which could be used only at a given time, and generally this was respected by the media. Now due to the cut throat nature of the business and the demand from the public for information, its everyman for himself. The only facts that can be believed these days are those in official club statements, but even those can be desected by the media with selected quotes in order to sensationalise a story. Back to the title of the post, then personaly I'd have to go with Andy Neild, he is a local reporter who cant in theory ailienate the club, whilst Alan Nixon can easily move on to patures new, to search for a scoop that will fill the back page of some tabloid. -

There's a photo of the trialist in the Daily this morning. Looks as if Rovers are keeping his identity under raps. -

Well Sky dont seem to know who it was. LINK SKYSPORT -
The main topic of discussion today regarding the news that Rovers had given Fulham permission to talk to striker Andy Cole, has quickly changed this evening with the news that a mystery trialist scored 2 of Rovers goals, in a pre season friendly against SG Schorndorf in Germany. With the new season only 4 weeks away Rovers started their pre-season warm up with an 8-0 win, this afternoon, with goals from Gallagher, Stead (2), Dickov, Jansen, Trialist (2), and Neill. El Hamdaoui is expected to join the squad for a trial during their pre-season games in Germany. -
Hey if we are talking about managers falling out with players, may I suggest Clough. He even smacked a supporter for running on the pitch. I also believe players lived in fear of Shankly. But those were different days, when players werent mercenary journey men
-
Come on rover6, lets get the perspectives right. Cole, - he went running to the PFA, why couldnt he have sat down and discussed matters with John Williams instead of making differences public. Yorke, - I think every SUPPORTER would fall out with him for his lazy attitude, you should have heard the comments at a reserve game when he strolled around showing no interest and wearing gloves. Todd, - threw his dummy out when placed on the bench against Leeds. Sukur, - loan player who wasnt guarantteed a first team place, threw his dummy out of the pram because he didnt start up front at Old Trafford. Dunn, - Souness tried to point him in the right direction and didnt drop him from the team, the club even offered him a new contract. Berg - gave notice to the club that he was moving back to Norway, then last minute when his house wasnt ready had a change of heart. Meanwhile Souness had made arrangements for his replacement. You cant let players dictate team selection, tactics and policies, that is down to the manager, it's his neck thats on the line. Souness has a lot to prove this coming season, that his decsisions are right or I suspect he will be shown the door.
-
Bob, could you just fanasize, Remember those days when we went out and got....... Bobby Svarc, John Radford, Quinn, Stapleton, Archibold all class strikers
-
If I remember correctly, Todd went home ill from training on the Friday and Souness had to change the team selection, Todd then arrived Saturday but refused to sit on the bench.

[Archived] Season Ticket Sales?
Alan75 replied to Mike Graham's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The board new the situation regarding Cole / Souness at the end of last season - why wait untill now for a clear the air meeting to decide Cole is surplus to requirements, be it that they are backing the manager. Could it be that they feared the effect it would have on season ticket sales. -

Whilst I'm not a big Cole fan, this latest piece of news to be released by the Rovers Board stinks in my book. If anyone recalls Coles press remarks after the Birmingham game then the release / transfer of Cole must have been on the cards at the end of the last season. Why werent the board honest enough to make a statement then, or prior to the sale of season tickets about Coles future at Ewood ? As I stated above, I'm not one of Coles biggest fans, as his performances have over the season been indifferent, but he does raise his game for the big occation also to give him credit he did pull out the stops towards the end of the season. Cole does gives us some presence and experience up front, something that Stead and Gally still have to learn. When I start to look at the team now it's like a throw back to the Jim Smith Bobby Saxton, Don Mackay era, of other peoples aged cast offs of bargain basement purchases, with a smattering of young prospects. I'll be there at the start of the season, as I've done for the last 30 years, but at the moment I feel as if the rug has been pulled out from under my feet, feeling cheated by the fact that the club havent been honest, letting me pay for a season ticket, knowing that once deadlines had passed they would release the news regarding Cole. ps. The difference between the Smith.Saxton Mackay era and now being that they were tactically aware, not just in theory but also in practice.
