[Archived] Jansen Rips Up Contract
blue phil replied to Wild Irish Rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
The first part above has worried me a bit - no point in him being there if he can't influence McClaren in any way . England are as predictable and as slow moving as ever . You're right about Ferguson as well , I'm afraid . His teams are all fast moving and give each other numerous options in possession . More years of hurt on the way -

Well I for one don't think that picture above is "quite impressive" at all . It looks like a gigantic cage .....I hope we never get to that stage again in GB -
You'll be telling us next that the official inflation rate is a load of made up figures.....

Well even Theno's idea doesn't deserve a silly point scoring post like that , Scotty ... Back on topic . I seem to remember someone on this forum coming up with the novel idea that we should price our games similar to the way Easyjet and Ryanair price their tickets , ie . the further ahead you buy your ticket the cheaper it is . Porbably a million and one reasons why it wouldn't work but worth mentioning ...

I don't think anyone's suggested that is part of the job description .....

[Archived] What Was Rovers Worst Transfer?
blue phil replied to rastan's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I used to think Grabbi could have proved useful down the wing ....but that's probably because I wanted him to succeed so much . £7m , though , for a Serie B player ...how come this one wasn't mentioned on the box last night !!?? -

Brazil is a tremendous broadcaster ; had to be reinstated due to popular demand after being sacked for being drunk so often a while ago His morning show with Beacroft (sp) is always good for a laugh . The other day the latter was subjected to a torrent of abuse from Brazil . His crime ? Admitting to going to the theatre to watch Arthur Miller's "All My Sons"... Too poncey for Mr Brazil  Good link , TRIS -
That may well be an impossible question to answer but the policies being followed now are only serving to speed up the process of alienating potential and existing supporters . We are fortunate in having a trust fund . If that has to be used solely to "subsidise" more imaginitive measures in getting punters through the gates then so be it . I'd rather go downhill and have kids for a quid every week against every club than suffer the slow death we're going through at present .

The point remains that we can go thousands down on what we have now - and at the present rate we'll find out what the real hardcore is quite soon But Mr Williams is doing his best - that's a good thing I suppose Nice to know you were getting things wrong even back then ..

That's as good a reason as any why Neill shouldn't be captain , SD4E . That kind of ignorance really bugs me It'll be a sad day in more ways than one when the great Tugay finally hangs up his boots .
-
On things for certain , Den - keeping prices as high as they are now is going to lose us a couple of thousand supporters year in year out until we get to the stage where people stop going because the atmosphere is no longer there . You want to know what our REAL hardcore following is ? I'd estimate it at about 4,000 - what it was back in the 70's . This policy of screwing the away fans and screwing our own fans with unrealistic prices is failing badly . This year City brought 3,000 - next year they'll bring probably a 1000 less . So will other teams . Great policy JW - keep it up ...but don't moan when no-one wants to play in an empty stadium . Or watch .

And don't bother with Mickey Gray - he'll be too pi$$ed to sign his autograph..........allegedly -
Maybe the club should have been more on "the offensive" in the first place by keeping greater checks on its employees and their use of our money to finance distinctly dodgy deals . Oh , and I'm glad you've finally accepted that the Grabbi deal (among others) may have been a little bit iffy . Next , you might just accept that certain members of our board might just be guilty of something other than negligence and incompetence in these cases .......

It didn't work out fine at all ....the bloody links were useless (Cheers anyway , Pabby )

Dinnis is a straight enough commentator ; tellls it like it is and isn't afraid to say if someone is playing badly . Last night (pre-match) McCarthy gave an upbeat talk which seemed to convince R D's fellow commentator that he was going to perform . "Talks a good game..." said Dinnis witheringly "...let's see him do it on the pitch" . I think he's yet to be convinced . Anyway , for those who prefer a more subjective viewpoint there's always our Wendy ...

Well it passed half an hour.... -
Well you and I are lucky enough to benefit from having a season ticket ; many walk on fans aren't that lucky . These are the fans who are being priced out of the game ....plus the walk ons won't want to be shoved in the bike shed on a winter's day to see the game at a "lower" price . Put it this way , Theno ; I'm a long term season ticket holder and don't consider myself a Sky fan or a part timer or a couch potato ....but if I didn't have a season ticket I probably would have reached my limit by now with the pricing structure that Rovers offer . Thousands have gone before me and there are plenty more to go yet , believe me ....

[Archived] Match review: Rovers 4 Man City 2
blue phil replied to rover6's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
An early goal is the order of the day for us . City at the end of last season at Ewood gave one of the worst premiership performances I've seen .....and they haven't turned it round yet . Very troubling if we fail to win this one . ROVERS 1- 0 CITY ; Savage to score (EDIT - Just read Big A's post ...sorry for copying )
