  1. That is exactly the type of quality business we should be looking to do.
  2. No but lack of anything remotely creative/attacking threat will. If no signings are in place for Ipswich then we will go there with a decent following, pass the ball around well - maybe even dominate possession but lose 2-0. Probably with the lad from Bristol scoring! We aren't good enough to be able to throw away the first 4-5 games of a season whilst we make acquisitions that have been glaring for 2 months. It's like starting with a 10 point deduction. Flip side -yes we may win a couple and all is good -you never know! But, as of now, the former scenario looks more likely IMO.
  3. I thought Nolan looked a good player last year. Surprised nobody has taken him tbh. Wouldn't class Davenport as a physical midfielder (Smallwood our only real tackler) I'm talking about adding some height and strength in there - Nzonzi size character. Our entire midfield must be well under 6ft. Not sure where the new lads fit in tbh (Davenport/Rothwell). Can't see either starting against Iswich. Rothwell strikes me as a Gladwin type signing. Slight possibility he may come good and cheap. Whomever we buy we are certainly going to have to 'eclipse the£750k spent on Dack' - to add any quality up top.
  4. Think everyone can see that to be fair. Someone summed it up perfectly. Two quick wide players. A physical striker. A striker with pace and a big dominating CB (with view to replacing Mulgrew). If we can sign at least one winger, striker and CB permanently, then topping up with quality loans would be great. Would also suggest a physical CM wouldn't go amiss although Travis is showing promise there.
  5. The lad is 22 and at Middlesbrough- a championship club. You've got to wonder -by that age - If he was good enough, he would be around their first team.
  6. To be fair DG had a £5 mil move (back in the days when that was a few bob) and scored a few in the premier league before he came to us. This kid's done the square route of nowt -yet. Worth a punt as a permanent signing to develop but no way as a loan.
  7. Having read back through LT interviews today. Following the return from India, Sharpe was reporting 5 permanent signings plus loans. Mowbray was talking of hungry young players as well as those with championship experience...
  8. So basically they spend decent money on quality players and use a high value sale every year to cover losses? Then rinse, wash, repeat. Hmm....sounds a familiar model.
  9. But also makes £3million for Armstrong a comparative bargain...
  10. That's the bit I recall. Which would imply they were willing to chuck money at it.
  11. To be fair Mowbray said in an LT article something along those lines. The owners wanted to spend but he wanted to build the club sensibly -not return to a boom and bust scenario (or words to that effect).
  12. One could argue that Venkys initial projection of a £5 mil a year kitty in the premier league is now required to sustain/mount any kind of tilt at promotion in the Championship.
  13. How Derby have dodged FFP is beyond me. They have spent highly for the last 3-4 years and their wage bill must be one of the highest in this division. Edit:. Quite easily according to this article https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/derby-county-financial-results-news-1391889.amp
  14. At least we would have a transfer ban with some decent talent on the books!
  15. Parson, how far off the first team squad is Simmonds do you think? Would he challenge for a wing position?
  16. I'm probably one of the few who would be happy with Gallagher....as long as he's played up top and not out on the wing.
  17. How hard to deal with can it be if there is a release clause if £2.5 million? we either pay it and talk to the player or we don't.
  18. Would his role in the team not clash with Dack's? I don't think Foden us a sitting midfielder, nor a wide player. Cracking prospect - if we didn't have Dack.
  19. Agree with all that. Also Smallwood and Bennett who can play his role. Last of a bad bunch is Evans (fitness/attitude).
