Summer transfer window 2021.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Agree with this really. I don't see the point in just bringing 'bodies' in. If the chance to loan a couple of special talents comes up, great. If we can sign a couple of players permanently that are better than what we have, great. If not, I'd be relying on the young lads to cover when needed. Needs a policy of quality over quantity now. -
Adam Armstrong

Aye. Ironically our league one visit was the most enjoyable season in a long time. Although winning plenty of games makes any season enjoyable! Premier league isn't much fun if you are a bottom half team. After a couple of seasons enjoying taking on the big boys, the novelty wears off. You can't win anything so you tread water and it becomes stale. Better to be there though than a mid table championship team. As an aside, always thought Eyal Berkovich was a good little player that had a stint with you and us back in the day. -
Ben Brereton Diaz

Do we no if we have a year option on Brereton? Keep reading how he's out of contract next year. -

If that is the case, I'd say that is absoloutely as good as we could get. -

Could go either way with Armstrong to be honest. Plus points, He's an honest lad, rarely injured, has a pretty decent touch, and will get in goalscoring positions. Can also score a few worldies from outside the box as well. Negatives, poor one on one, can't hold the ball up, can be a bit greedy (most strikers are yo be fair). He's quick but not lightning fast. My personal opinion is he may struggle as a central striker in the Prem. If he is coming off the wings though, he could be a handful and easily get into double figures. Will be interesting to see how he does. -

Loan with an agreement in place to sign next season - if he does ok- would be the only sensible scenario. -

Thought Douglas was awful tbh. Trybul had the odd good game. Splitting hairs though. History points to young players on the fringes of elite teams having the highest success rate. They will also no doubt be the most expensive. Suppose it depends where our priorities lie. If this season is to simply stay afloat, I can't imagine the quality of loanees will be great and will probably be to the detriment of our own young kids. If the strategy is to attract the young 'elite' players there is some merit to developing that strategy with a view to play offs. -

So an emergency loan because we hadn't invested properly at the back. He looked every inch an emergency loan as well. Out of all the loans we've had over the last 3-4 years, I'd say Harrison Reed (wasn't used properly by TM though), Tosin, Elliott and Hardwood Bellis have been a cut above what we had. The rest have been on a sliding scale of bang average to shite. That's probably around a 30% success rate. If we are making 5 loans this summer. The likelihood is that a maximum of 2 will actually improve the team. -

This Brighton lad has nowhere near the pedigree of Elliott though - otherwise he would be in the Brighton side at 20. This has more of the Mo Barrow type loan about it. Only plus side is he's a winger. Maybe he will even play on the wing. -

If it's 15 including add ons that's pretty shite. Probably puts it between 10-12 mil cash and a few million based on goals/England caps or something. Far cry from the £20 million we were rumoured to want. -

If it's a player on a permanent - good. If not, has to be cash only. -

Arma needs to go, we need to move on and adapt. I didn't see the game Saturday, would we have pressed as well with Arma up top? Sometimes removing a talented individual results in a better team. -

Over in Spain at the moment and couldn't work out how to get the match on rovers tv - so didn't see the performance. Sounds like how we started last season, high press, counter attacking. It suits the players we have. A young team, giving their all for the shirt I am well on board with. However, once the loans/signings arrived last season and the season before, Mowbray reverted back to the 'experienced' players and his possession football, which bores me senseless. Call me fickle if you will but If we get yesterday's brand of football this season, I would be tempted to buy a ST. But if, as likely, it reverts back to the possession based rubbish when a few bodies arrive, not a chance. End of the transfer window will be interesting. -

Happy days. Can't stand the current incumbents but it's still great to get a win on the opening day! -

Don't believe for one minute we are getting anywhere near £20 mil for Armstrong. Personally, I'd snap any team offering a decent player/prospect as a makeweight (like the 2 lads mentioned) in the deal - as we know we won't see another player arrive permanently if we get just cash. -

Perhaps take one at the end of the season. This next 12 months may finally be an eye opener for some. -
