  1. Where did I say it was fact. When I start posting articles on 90.com and linking them on here then you’ll have a point. Unless I post to somewhere off site, or state otherwise, my posts are my opinion or based on logic. Try it. All of the managers you mention had better football careers than our goalkeeping coach - who finished at junior grassroots level. Except Villas-Boas who was over-promoted and got found out very quickly at each club. Thanks for making my point for me. Surprised you didn’t add Ferguson to your list just to really mug yourself off. And your last para embarrasses you I’m afraid - and shows your age. ”Pal”
  2. Love that the commentators keep having to mention Blackburn Rovers when they are trotting out the FA Cup records. It must really be sticking in their craw.
  3. Specific calls? Can you remind me who Ben Benson played for again, I’ve forgotten. I thought the answer was nobody. He’s younger than most decent goalkeepers, let alone coaches. There’s an old saying round these parts: ‘them as can do, them as can’t teach’. Stop being obtuse.
  4. Nice of him. He should get himself a deal to advertise Werther’s Originals.
  5. We shall see. Rovers thought it newsworthy enough - presumably for the benefit of the Raos.
  6. The more I think about the current events the less sense it all makes. We have a goalkeeper with potential but who isn’t being pushed (because the number two isn’t credible) and is being coached via a text book. So what do we do? Re-sign the number two and tell the number one that his services are under question. Then allegedly entertain advances from Brentford for him. Let’s say he leaves and we bring in Fielding (for instance), then we still have the same problem scenario, just with a different name on the number one shirt. The only way this ends well is if we bring in either another Friedel (unknown but outstanding - and impervious to injury) or we bring in a talented keeper with top level experience and an experience and mentor-like new gk coach - who can also improve Leutweiler. If Raya doesn’t leave then his confidence has been kicked and he still has the same lack of competition. Keeping Leutweiler seems a very poor bit of business when actually upgrading the number two should have been the required first step. Or does Mowbray see Leutweiler as the new number one - on the back of a good run of results at the end of last season when the pressure was off? ?
  7. To be fair, you only need one. But I’m inclined to agree.
  8. I think he could go either way. He is capable of a world but other than that is very average. Poor kicking and doesn’t command his box at all. I actually feel a bit sorry for him. He has been let down in terms of competition and coaching, with both the number 2 and gk coach devoid of experience. The lad is practically self-taught. I imagine he spends an awful lot of time watching videos.
  9. He came on some kind of trial period. He is now training with the first team.
  10. Corner taker and probably our best crosser. This is one season too far, and a waste of a squad place. From his point of view, if he has taken on a contract on greatly reduced terms then it shows how much he is committed to the club. From Mowbray’s, it is yet more of his rewarding loyalty ahead of contribution. From the club’s point of view this should be a transition into coaching and potentially an eventual replacement for Johnson in the U23s (hopefully with Johnson replacing Mowbray). Not sure if his coaching credentials, mind. Very much scratching around for the positives in this one. None of them are about him helping the first team meet Mowbray’s stayed objective. Not a great start to the window... Leutweiler ✅ Conway ✅ Gladwin ⚖️ Rodwell ⚖️ Downing ?
  11. If the manager and chief exec state their ambition is promotion and then go to the owners who say, “no we won’t give you the budget” then the pair of them don’t get a free pass. In fact, their positions become untenable. If they put up with not being backed then they are complicit and ultimately just taking the coin and managing fans expectations. If the manager states his aim is promotion and then signs players (or enters into talks with out of contract players) who are inferior to that aim but carries on regardless then he is culpable. Your scenario would sound like he was trying to put pressure on or blame Venkys. I’m kind of cool with that but if they call his bluff then he would have to walk. However, it is too simplistic to say Venkys will need to give Mowbray a huge war chest or he cannot be judged and the owners are to blame (for a lack of commitment to promotion). There is a middle ground between spending millions on PL or Top 6 players and only using frees and loans. Sadly, Mowbray May have already thrown away his opportunity gambling on Ben Brereton coming good. Not likely when he doesn’t pick him to start football matches. From their perspective they backed him last Summer and he squandered the money. I’d be wanting a return on that investment first because 60 points should cost £10m. Whichever way you look at it, any failure to go up is Mowbray’s. He has been backed with money and hasn’t spent it wisely and now wants more to satisfy him own ambitions - suggesting that Venkys are holding him back. (Assuming your analysis is correct).
  12. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2019/may/aniket-will-benefit-from-football-building-blocks/ Let’s face it, we are all expecting at some point. It remains to be seen if this becomes anything more than a stunt, or if “Madame” has said if you want to go into the foreign market, start with India. These comments suggest where the Rao’s heads are at: Mowbray also praised the club’s Owners, who facilitated the training spell, for trying to help develop young Indian talent and progress the game in South Asia. “It’s such a huge continent with such a huge population, I think the potential is huge,” added the Rovers boss. “The Owners obviously have a vested interest in football. It’s not a process that’s going to happen overnight, but at some stage you have to try and begin the process. “I think that’s what’s happening. The bigger Premier League football becomes worldwide, the bigger the Asian nations will impact world football, and I’m sure there will be generations to come of hopefully Indian and Asian players playing in the Premier League.”
  13. The lack of trust in some of our more enthusiastic players, Reed being one and Travis eventually getting the position, once we were safe. I wonder if it is to avoid raising expectations? Reed being played out wide to accommodate the crab brothers was the daftest decision last season but ultimately effective in keeping us up. Even though more ambition could have seen us competing with Derby. Mowbray seems to steadfastly stick to his targets and ignores the urge to raise his standards during the season. Promotion, when we could have been champions; safety, when we could have pushed on. This is why I was hopeful when he came out and said that this season’s target was promotion. To do that he has to win football matches rather than draw them and to do that he needs to cut away the deadwood and barnacles that are slowing us down. A solid non-nonsense defence and an attacking mindset.
  14. That probably makes his signing even more likely now! So why is Mowbray even here then? If we aren’t aiming for promotion because of the limitations of the manager (and as a result, the players) then we need a new manager. I find it hard to believe that ‘the club’ do not have an expectations of promotion. That absolutely has to be the aim now, every season. If Mowbray can’t deliver it then we need someone who can.
  15. I thought I caught Donny’s keeper saying to the ref “that’s bullshit”. They’ve now just lost very narrowly as a result and there has been a mass pitch invasion. Charlton very lucky to go through but not so much lucky as handed an advantage. Should football matches now be decided based on which fans might kick off? Shambles.
  16. Probably watch the nations cup. Might watch the England women’s but won’t go out of my way to. Depends when they are on.
  17. Cheers. So it’s just a stand alone trophy like a version of Le Tournoi. You would think that the winner would get a free pass to the Euros.
  18. Remind me... what’s the prize for winning the Nations Cup?
  19. I think O2G has answered my question. We are already promoted but this game looks like being largely ceremonial this season. Maybe the rule were changed after this match was already decided? Who knows. Cheers folks.
  20. Wonder if we’ll have the same sponsor again like the Dafabet years.
