  1. I'm completely of the opposite view. Whatever we do we must not look a gift horse in the mouth and must accept £1.5m - £2m for Gallagher. I think we'd miss Dolan far more but even then, I suppose the pragmatic move would be to accept a fee for him. What a shambles of a Club we are when we can't even persuade Dolan to sign a new deal and it doesn't say a lot for GB's powers of negotiation.
  2. I doubt we'll be allowed to spend £12m but if we could we should be setting our sights a lot higher than that imo Who knows though Mcguire might do OK, if you keep signing strikers, you've surely got to get one right on the law of averages sooner or later.
  3. 100%. The American guy is a massive gamble but if we managed to fortuitously offload Gallagher then it would effectively be a free hit if he failed to come off like Hirst/Ennis/Telalovic.
  4. Well.....he's started as he's gone on since he's been here.....a 37 Yr old for 4 months and £2.5m plus add ons for a guy with no experience of English football. And I suspect it might get worse before tomorrow night. If that's his list expecting to imminently bank £18m I'd hate to see the ones where he hadn't. But hey, the McGuire signing will be OK as long as the family all follow us on social media, and if we just get behind the lads FFS everything will be OK.
  5. Need to ask them why there wasn't the sort of hefty sell on clause that you would normally expect these days for Wharton. Suspect we all know the answer I.e. that we had to sacrifice back end add ons because we needed more money up front but will be interesting to see if they own up to it or claim they thought the terrible deal for Wharton was a good one as it stood.
  6. With the best will in the world and a far slicker recruitment set up than we have you'd think that logistically it would still be a bit of a push to get a player that's in Mexico over and signed up in time for tomorrow night. Another near miss incoming like 12 months ago or just a bit of fluff in the press to make it look like we've been doing something?
  7. I was actually going to post in jest yesterday about the stalking of his mum on BRFC related media being fairly shoddy work because the poster in question hadn't checked to see if she was following SWFC sites as well. But you've actually gone and done it. And care. The world's gone.
  8. Or even a season to "get fit". He's not even played any games to speak of.
  9. The thing that annoys and worries me the most in equal measure Bryan is that so far there's been no mention whatsoever of any sell on clause. In the absence of any such it turns it into a desperately poor deal for us overall. If there does turn out to be the usual type of sell on clause I'm happy to be proved wrong but if not it comes over as though we had to renegotiate to waive back end add ons in favour of a bigger lump sum up front.
  10. There'll be a token effort jim, the usual couple of cheap loanees PL Clubs are desperate to farm out for some game time. Rest of your post is probably spot on.
  11. I see it the other way round, both have been disastrous signings albeit relatively low cost, but at least Telalovic is fit to play and theoretically there might be some improvement in him although I'm not really seeing it at the moment. You're probably right with your final paragraph though, although there's no guarantee MCGuire won't be bad punt number 3.
  12. Thank goodness for den injecting some sanity into this thread.
  13. I'm not winding people up. I find it incredible that this bloke has signed Ennis (who isn't even fit enough to play professional football) Hirst, Telalovic and Wahlstedt (which must be the biggest cock up since Souness signed George Weah's cousin) and people don't even seem to care.
  14. Hopefully on the phone to his agent asking him to find another Club.
  15. Except when I do blame the owners which is all the time.,...... For me they were to be tolerated when they were freely able and willing to put large amounts of cash in. The ideal scenario would have been their financial backing with a decent CEO and Manager. We never got that and now we finally have a promising coach they've managed to get themselves barred from putting similar amounts of funding in due to circumstances of their own making. The current situation is no use to anyone.
  16. Still not officially confirmed, shame that as far as we know a bigger Club hasn't steamed in at the last minute to gazump them. As much for the player as us. It's a shocking move career wise imo.
  17. You'll have to wheel Broughton out of the place in a wooden box with Waggott I'll wager. No way he's giving up that cushy little number with zero accountability.
  18. I've been giving it plenty of clog all day to the point where posters have been asking how to block me.
  19. Hmmmm...they seemed to be interested enough in the first place to stipulate that any funds had to be used for running costs only and not transfer fees. Hope you're right.
  20. Just reporters exaggerating how close the deal was probably. I thought it had been reported that us and Sheff Wed had originally submitted equal sized offers (probably structured differently) but then that Sheff Wed had moved ahead with a slightly bigger offer. Didn't mean to shoot the messenger, sorry.
