  1. Holtby was hardly a hidden gem, and basically everyone on here had heard of him.
  2. Theres very little chance that Thompson and Butterworth could come into the United team and have an impact like Williams and Greenwood, its a gigantic assumption to suggest that any of our young players could.
  3. I hope hes not been brought back to cover a weakness in the under 23s. He should be loaned back out to play proper football, perhaps in League 2.
  4. They have no choice but to fund the club with debt and share capital to keep it running as a going concern but its a whole new ball game suggesting that they would spend as much as was required to get promoted, a totally baseless suggestion.
  5. He barely played for Rochdale, he played at RB in his last game and was taken off in the first half. Suspect he will be loaned out elsewhere, wouldnt feel comfortable sticking him into our first team. You are massively overestimating their committment and interest in the club I suspect, they didnt have this attitude prior to FFP supposedly taking hold.
  6. I dont get where all of this talk about an imminent signing has come from? And some of the names of experienced players, Marc Albrighton, Matt Ritchie, Jota, Michail Antonio, Jordan Ibe are all absurdly unrealistic. One Premier League youngster is looking to sort out his long-term future at his club before moving out on loan, with Rovers primed should that be tied up by Friday - that is from the LT last night after Mowbrays interview. So its a kid on a loan deal once he has agreed a new deal with his parent club. He also said “If we don’t get anyone then we’ve just won two games back-to-back and as long as we can keep them fit, we’ll try and keep going” so its not even a guarantee that we get a kid in.
  7. Mowbray said after the game that it was betweem Bennett and Brereton and he went for the more defensive option. Bennett again was shocking and as you say JRC should have been brought on. Only viable alternative IMO to JRC was Downing left, Johnson on. The win is the most important thing but it was tough to watch, thats for sure.
  8. Wouldnt be surprised if we didnt buy anyone. We badly need wingers and a left back but most of our best reinforcements this season are short term and Gallagher has been a failure. Ideally we will sign players that can help us both this season and beyond but sadly the money is seemingly not there.
  9. The quality of the game for much of it was typical of a mid table Championship game, pretty hard to watch.
  10. Great goal by Armstrong, and great header by Lenihan. Rothwell very good first half and end product there that we crave. Travis is a right bell end in a good way, making a meal out of fouls and being an irritant. Our Ben Pearson is a fair shout. Downing not his usual self on the ball. Holtby neat and tidy. Gallagher dismal again. Playing wide never works although even when he went central he should have scored his chance. Bell very poor again, amazed people were impressed, never seen a player kick the ball out of play so much unnecessarily, a mixture of lack of technique and awareness, whether its for a corner, a throw in or a goal kick. He also went AWOL on a few occasions in a way Nyambe doesnt. Bennett a very strange sub too, did nothing.
  11. His reputation is understandably besmirched because he has put in 24 months of consistently shoddy and inadequate performances. I dont think his performances in recent weeks have been impressive aside from perhaps at Bristol City. He got some praise on here v Preston but I felt he was one of our weakest players.
  12. I feel like its the latter. At our best, we end up 3 or 4 points away, at worst quite a bit away. We never occasionally break into the top 6 and fall back out ie are genuinely in and around as a contender. I dont necessarily think theres a psychological block, we are just a bit away.
  13. Goalkeeper to replace Walton. Sub goalkeeper. Right back competition. Centre back to replace Tosin. One or even 2 left backs. 2 wingers and 1 striker.
  14. Thank you. May I also say that removing the option of the red button may not make a significant difference to the attendance but it IS a good idea whenever the club can prevent it because its one less barrier, its convenience will appeal to some and once that option is removed theres a decision for people to make.
  15. But what people cannot grasp is that those who see attending as a priority are already going. We are appealing to those who either dont see it as much of a priority or that cant see it as much of a priority. So there are 2 potential mindsets, feel bitter towards those we see as "less committed" which might create a feeling of entitlement but ultimately will achieve nothing. Or the club can really ask, why arent more coming and what can we do to get them back? Totally disagree that the club is doing all that it can to drag people in. Prices are no longer low, they have drifted up in recent years and are now middle of the road. Look especially at matchday tickets with a needless additional surcharge making it very unappealing for the type of less committed fan from making a decision last minute, may it be that their own game has been called off, maybe a family plan has changed, maybe the weathers nice and they think they fancy going, is the club pricing itself to attract that sort of person? Not at all. Not sure the product on offer is particularly appealing either, there is a whiff of stagnation at the moment. Agree with the red button, more a general point about the mentality regarding attendances. You say "pander" to fans but that sort of attitude from the club wont do anything to get people back.
  16. Totally agree that no red button is good news but as an overall outlook its a shame that the club shares your principled view that 100% of the responsibility lies on the fans having a duty of care to attend rather than proactively doing all it can to try and tempt people in who dont see attending as a priority.
  17. Specifically in the transfer thread, theres absolutely nothing to discuss so the alternative to discussing major issues (the 12m we have spent and the managers performance, both key factors in us having certain issues with the squas and an empty kitty) is absolutely no discussion at all to be fair.
  18. Its impossible to try too hard. Ultimately, its difficult not to be critical of a big money striker whose strike record per minute is up there with the very worst in the league.
  19. I never said he is lying! I have repeatedly said we have very little money, and the manager saying we are miles away from affording our targets hardly disproves that, indeed its the cornerstone of why I think it. And i never said they should have left. I said these meetings should have been had prior to the window opening. Maybe ask them to train with the kids, I totally empathise with them wanting to sit on decent contracts, so make it a bit more difficult for them? Youve avoided telling me what kind of striker is. Hes a poor one who doesnt score enough goals and who the manager seems now to be trying to convert into a winger where he is even less effective!
  20. I have watched Gallagher as much as you so stop being patronising. You are quick to tell me what he is not as a striker but not what he is good at? Bar working hard and not moaning. Matt Smith and Sam Vokes are average but they have very specific talents, they are both very good in the air. Limited players but they have a clear, well defined strength. All in all though, the main priority regarding a striker is how many goals he can get. His goals may have been good but its about quantity, not quality. He needs to score more goals and he should never, ever be played out wide.
  21. If the summit of your expectations is not moaning and trying their best, and you turn a blind eye to strikers not scoring goals and the manager playing players in incorrect and uncomfortable positions then thats up to you. I want my strikers to score goals and I want players working effectively in their natural positions. More fool me. But it isnt needs must? We have actual wide men at the club. You are the absolute master at taking a point off tangent to hide something. Apparently being linked with players and then the manager saying that we are nowhere near asking prices is proof that the money is there to spend. If we cant judge or discuss anything "without knowing the full facts" whatever thag means then lets all not form opinions and instead close the messageboard. I can see with my own eyes that Gallagher cannot play effectively out wide and when he has been up front his goalscoring record has been dismal. But as long as he shuts up and doesnt publically berate the manager for it and he tries his best I am not within my rights to expect any more!
  22. Neither were Dack and Graham last season, but they are natural goalscorers. I am not saying that strikers cant learn, but the knack of goalscoring is somewhat a natural one. I dont see much potential in him at all. What is he particularly good at to build around? Quite quick but not rapid, tall but not the best in the air, not a natural goalscorer. Id love him to turn into a good striker and goalscorer but id be surprised.
  23. He played Bennett and Conway there as "defensive wingers" which was another strange Mowbray fad that didnt result in an attacking threat. Chapman has started one league game under Mowbray. Downing is a good player but one who we need even more in 2 other positions so cannot play him wide. No, I try not to recreate history that his goal tally even in that season was anything other than average, 1 goal every 4 games, and that was the highlight of his career. His overall Championship goal record is appalling. He gets a hard time from me because he statistically is one of the worst strikers in the division and does not merit a starting berth in our team. The fact that he works hard does not set him apart, the team in general tries its best but it doesnt in any way excuse him from not scoring enough goals. Its not even like when someone like Graham has a dry spell but still provides a focal point because he doesnt do that either. I dont recall him having decent games out wide. He has played plenty of games (and played poorly) central but this wide forward experiment needs to be stopped immediately and I blame Mowbray solely for persisting with that.
  24. Gallagher bashing? The discussion has been about where he has been sometimes playing, very ineffectively, and where Mowbray has suggested that he is being shown videos and analysis to try and further him as a winger, a position he has shown no signs of potential in. Id suggest its pretty naive to expect a 24 year old to massively increase his ability to be able to sniff out chances. Hes not a natural goalscorer, he doesnt anticipate like a Rhodes, like a Dack or like a Graham. Working hard doesnt compensate for lack of goals which is what a striker will primarily be judged on and his tally so far is with the worst strikers in the league. Id much rather have someone who can "only" score goals, even assuming that the implication is true (it isnt) that Gallagher has everything but that in his game and Rhodes can only do that. You mention the price, when theres a natural goalscorer who does get goals at this level going for 4m then you have to ask questions.
  25. Agreed, the whole wide forward thing is bollocks really. To be fair, Gallagher has been really poor up front too where he has played plenty as well, so I suspect it is a mixture of being reluctant to drop his big money signing and a lack of proven quality out wide, but it is illogical and is vocally getting the fans irritated now.
